However, in subspace the Lucifer's shields would be down, making it VERY vulnerable to the Collossus' weapons. The recommended way to install ASW is through the FreeSpace Open Installer it offers the option to install the latest version of acts 1 and 2, as well as the most common extensions. Umm.you are aware that the Lucy was on the Sol side of the node when it blew right? How would they know it would work when they don't have any part of the Lucifer to study? Furthermore, the big C's firepower is more designed for taking on smaller fleets than a direct engagement with a juggernaut or super-destroyer. Is it really too outlandish to assume that the super-shields that repulsed the weapons of thirty years ago may well be penetrated with the new superweapons of the present? Look at how quickly the GTVA advanced their tech just from the beginning of the Great War. Otherwise the only realistic defense would be to have multiple fighter squadrons on standby waiting for the Lucifer to jump. It is a reasonable assumption that 30 years after the destruction of the Lucifer, knowing what they know about it from the Great War (which was a considerable amount, I should add), that if they built the Colossus to defend against a Lucifer-Type ship, that it would be capable of harming it with its primary beam weapons. Hotfoot wrote:They were preparing for the possibility of another Lucifer popping out of nowhere. What happened to him, we don't really know since the expansion pack for FS2 wasn't released. Bosch wanted nothing more than to establish a dialogue with the Shivans and hopefully put an end to the fighting.

The GTVA still wasn't to keen on the idea given what happened with the GTI rebellion years ago, and wanted to "put an end to it". The ETAK project was a way to communicate with the Shivans using their own communications system. This led to the GTVA civil war, which was nothing more than something to keep the GTVA off of Bosch's back while he worked on ETAK. Bosch didn't like it and started ANOTHER rebellion years later, which grew since the GTA/PVN war was still fresh in everyone's minds (which led to general hatred for the Vasudans) and needless to say the Vasudans still weren't too popular, so people joined up left and right. I don't want to spoil the details for you (since all this happened during the "Silent Threat" add-on pack for the first Freespace game) but essentially a big fight happened and the project got canned. I never did beat that stage.īasically, Bosch was behind the ETAK project for the GTI. Oh, and the hardets mission in that game was trying to defend a capship from like 6 waves of bombers and fighters.

What the hell was that about? Do you go randomly over to a neighbor's house and start beating on them, and then when you realize you've won, but only gave him a black eye, walk away and lock the door behind you? they blow up a a frontier star, which presumably will lock the gates points. What the hell was that about?Įven when they must have recognized that the ISA or whatnot couldn't efectively match them in production, except in fighter tech. There's a crazy general who flies off for no apparent reason to meet to Shivans. This fleet seems to have no purpose but to wander around and blow things up at random. I'm assuming the fleet was small because they produced enough Sathanases alone to cover a damned star. What in the hell was the entire point of Freespace 2? I never played FS1, so maybe that had some asnwers, but honestly, the Shivans in Freespace 2 were bogeymen.īasically, they send one small fleet with one top-of-the-line Battleship. This question has come up now and then in various threads, but here is is all on the table.
